TESTIMONIALS
Thanks to all of you who shower us with such generous praise, you make us all work harder to make your experiences better.

More often than not, we don't hear about how good a job we do (to be honest, we apreciate negative feedback just as much as we do positive feedback). So when someone takes the time out of their busy schedules to let us know we did good we do have a tendency to get all warm and fuzzy.

Here are some really nice Emails we've gotten over the past little while:

Hi…
Just thought I would let you know that I really love the “Mountain Hardware Down “ jacket I bought at your Donald store a couple months ago.

This is the green, hooded, waste long jacket. I finally got to test it last couple of days with cold temps and its just what I wanted.

I have had people make comments on this jacket when I’m wearing it so its excellent quality..

Keep up your quest for excellence in winter clothing which goes far beyond the normal and items that can satisfy only the most discriminating
seeker of well designed, quality and lasting Cold weather gear.

Sincerely,
Ron Lupack, Dauphin, Manitoba

Good Afternoon JF,

I would like to thank you for the great service, hospitality, and help you gave me when it came to finding skis and boots. The Blizzard skis are working brilliantly, as well as the Lange boots. The foot beds are also awesome. They fit great, and haven't lost their shape yet.

Anyways, thanks again,

Colin Ross

Hey JF,

I had the "unbreakable chain" installed at the L1 location last night and like an idiot I went in about 8:20pm and expected the job to be a simple one (which it was) but the service I received was phenomenal. Not only did the tech install the chain but replaced the rear gear cable, adjusted the gears and straightened the de-railer hanger, and stayed late to do it. I was really impressed by the integrity of the fellow (not sure of his name) who worked on my Xam 2.  Its really nice to be that well treated in your store.
Kind regards, Steve Biggs

Hey, I just returned a few hours ago from taking 46 Grade 8 kids on a bike/camping trip to Bird's Hill Park and back and thought I'd just drop you a quick note.

Here's the story: Every year we do a year-end trip with the Grade 8 students from our school.  We bike from Transcona to BHP, spend the night, and return the next day.  This is the fourth time we've done this trip and (for a variety of reasons) this is the first time I was actually able to participate as a biker.  I was so looking forward to riding with them all and sharing that experience.  You can imagine my disbelief and horror when before departure, I had forgotten that I'd left my gloves on the spokes, got on the bike to go across the parking lot, and one of the gloves got caught in the chain, tangled in the rear derailleur and snapped the hanger.  There I was, about to take 46 kids on a bike trip and my rear derailleur is hanging off my bike by the chain.  I was crushed.  First thing I did (after securing another bike that actually had no brakes, but at least a functioning derailleur) was call Gord's to see what could possibly be done.  I was actually biking, trying to catch up to the group while on my Blackberry.  Coppens answered the phone, I pled my case and explained the situation, and within 30 minutes Matt had grabbed tools, parts, and driven across town and met me at our first rest stop.  I'm not going to assume that speed limits were broken, but it's quite likely!  The timing was perfect.  He arrived 3 minutes after we did, while the kids were re-hydrating he replaced the cable and re-attached my derailleur.  I was back on my way, on my own bike (complete with fully-functional brakes) and 46 kids in tow.  I don't know what I expected... I certainly don't expect Gord's to make house-calls and repair my bike... but this was an emergency (at least in 'my' mind) and without even hesitating, Gord's (specifically Coppens) went "above and beyond the call of duty" and I can't thank him enough.  I just thought I should let you know of yet another example of the fine staff you've gathered at Gord's.

Rock on, -Chris D.

Hello JF,

Just wanted to thank your team for their consistent quality customer service.

Of the staff who helped me today all three offered friendly assistance.
I especially wanted to pass on gratitude to the service technician who tuned and adjusted my Jamis Coda Sport. Though I returned my bike twice in a matter of minutes, he was calm and courteous, and his thorough attention has me riding again.

I'm a commuter and I run during the winter months. And, as much as I enjoy running, after flying down the street on my bike for the first time this year, I was reminded how much I love riding. Guess I'm a speed junky. Anyway the bike glides like a bird on a thermal.

Thanks again.
It's been a pleasure doing business with you.

Maybe you should buy the staff a round of...
uh... organic smoothies...  or...  something.  :^ )

To whom it may concern,

Simply wished to congratulate your most excellent and caring staff for taking care on my wife and I on June 23rd. We had both been to several bike shops in the 'Peg and were unimpressed by their service and off-put by their snobery towards us unsophisticates. Your staff (Darci in particular) made us feel important, educated us in a manner that we could relate to and provided us with exactly what we needed. You folks are top notch in our books and we'll keep on coming back to Gord's for a long, long time to come. Keep up the good work and thank you for making our bike buying experience nothing short of stellar.

-Jim & Tracy

JF,

I'm writing this email in regards to a pair of bikes you and your staff sold yesterday afternoon. Elizabeth and I, in a very spur of the moment type deal, decided we needed to get back into exercise. She used to swim, I used to run. But we've both fallen out of those routines due to the impact (running was destroying my feet) and time (finding a club, going when there we few people, etc). Both of us hadn't ridden bikes in 5+ years but we needed something to get us back into shape. Cue Gord's and your staff. Ya'll simply gave a shit. We'd never seriously considered biking but ya'll make it sound fun!

Well, I went for a short 30 minute ride this morning.. I haven't felt so alive in over two years. Elizabeth hasn't had a chance to get out for an extended ride just yet but judging by out 5 minute stints yesterday I'm sure she'll feel great about it too. So thank you. To you and your staff. Darcy managed to convince us to come back in the span of our lunch break and the blonde gal (forgive me, I don't think I ever caught her name) and yourself both helped us find the perfect bikes. So thanks for everything. Hopefully soon we'll be able to join the club and run with ya'll!

Regards, Elizabeth and Steve

"Just got back from snowboarding North Dakota and I must say it was a blast. After visiting your store I found that your associates are very informative and were able to provide me with a lot of information I didn’t know about the sport."

"I appreciate the time and patience that your sales staff showed me and I can’t wait for my next visit. At first I thought it was just another high end sports shop looking to take me for all I’m worth with over priced products, but after talking to your staff I was well informed of why the prices are what they are and the only products you sell are top quality stuff."

"I just got into snowboarding last year and just picked up some used decks just to try it out, fell in love instantly, so I came to your shop for a nicely suited deck, and there was definitely a difference in quality.
I could not be happier! At first I thought I went a little over board on the price, but after spending a full day on my new setup I feel its worth every penny!!!"

"Just wanted to thank you guys for the service I received, and honestly I was pretty impressed because customer service now a days has been going down hill. I appreciate the effort you guys put in to helping out your customers. I have already recommended your shop to everyone at my office who has any interest in outdoor activities or has children who want to get into the snowboarding craze.  I’ll be sure to check you guys out in the summer as I saw a mountain bike that caught my eye. Thanks again!"

Thank you so much for the kind words Leo! We're very glad we did right by you and that you're now a convert!

JF

I am genuinely touched by the whole buying experience. From dealing with you and the obvious love of bikes that you exude, through to the tech guys who were fantastic and spent time to go over the bike with me. There seemed to be a general buzz of genuine excitement throughout the store over this bike......... and at L1 where we were earlier.

The bike is something special and worth every hold-up I planned and executed over the last five days!

Thanks once again to you and your fantastic staff.

Steve

Mr. Ravenelle

Allow me to congratulate you on your superb and caring staff who have made all our recent purchases more than pleasant.

Don't get me wrong, My wife and I are just as frugal as the next Manitoban. We did or homework and visited one too many bike shops during our bike shopping excursions. We decided on adopting Gords as our bike shop after realizing that we could have our cake and eat it too since your prices were right in line with your competitors but your service and knowledge went above and beyond.

Thank you for not taking the usual Winnipeg retail route and instead providing us with well trained, personable staff and great merchandising. As long as you keep it up, we'll gladly drop by and make semi-regular deposits into your cash registers.

Karl and Cindy W.

Hi JF,

I just wanted to send an e-mail to let you know about my new bike buying experience.

I did a lot of shopping around before coming into Gord's and really didn’t know what to expect seeing as I had heard rumors of pressure sales. When I first walked into the Donald street Gord's, two employees greeted me and made me feel welcome right away. There was never any pressure to buy something that I couldn’t afford (or didn’t need) and their experience / knowledge really helped me make my decision. I was also never made to feel stupid because I didn’t know everything about bikes unlike some of the other shops that I had visited.

Marc & Jenn were the ones who originally helped me and when I returned a couple days later to test ride & make my purchase, Mark was there helping me every step of the way. I was almost shocked when he put the bike up on the service stand and went through the manual / adjustments with me seeing as with my previous bike purchases at other bike shops, they didn’t even give me the manual….

I just wanted to let you know that you’ve got two awesome employees that made my bike buying experience a very enjoyable one. The bike that I bought would sell itself but I was totally blown away with the service that I received and I’ll be recommending Gord's to anyone that I know who’s looking to buy a bike.

Please pass on my thanks again to these two employees.

Shayne Murray"

Hello JF,

I would like to take the time to tell you about the client experience my wife and I had at you Keniston store location.

First off, I want to say, as any consumer, I did a price point comparison before purchasing, and Gord's did not come in as the cheapest, but what lacked in price, was more than made up for in service and quality and that is why I am writing you today. Friday June 20, my wife and I went into your store and met with Caroline. She was very pleasant to deal with, through some well asked questions showed us a couple of choices to meet our needs in terms of bikes and then went on from there. Caroline made sure that we had all the basics to get us started, made sure we knew the servicing packages for the bikes, even brought to our attention the discounts we received on our purchases. She also, through phone calls, kept us informed as to any delays in picking up our bikes.

As I said, Gord's did not come in as the cheapest place to buy our bikes, but in terms of service and attentiveness on the part of your staff, it was the best overall. Since I have three children, all of whom will need new bikes at some point, rest assure that Gord's will be my first stop.

Sincerely

Our reply:

Steve,

I just wanted to say thank-you very much for the feedback... It is very much appreciated.

I'll make sure that Carolyn receives the appropriate kudos for once again, a job well done.

Please remember that if you should find anything you've purchased from us cheaper, anywhere in the city, we'll gladly price match it and give you an extra 5% just for pointing it out... Our goal is to never be more expensive on the same stuff... but of course, we don't sell lower quality merchandise... I hope when you said "Gord's did not come in as the cheapest place to buy our bikes" you were referring to that latter.

At any rate let me once again say thank you for your kind words as well as a big thank you for choosing to spend your hard earned money at Gord's.

We sincerely appreciate it.

-JF

to whom it may concern,

i bought a jamis bike from you guys last month and i wanted to say THANK YOU. i love my bike and i had a great experience buying it from ryan (i think that was his name - cute, black hair) he was helpful and he new his stuff and he seemed to like his job so did everyone i talked to even the tech guys.

thx again

Mr Ravenelle

I wanted to take this opporunity to congratulate you on your kind and dedicated staff. My partner and I have been looking at purchasing bikes for the past month without much luck. As we shopped around we more often than not felt pressured and made to feel like we were nitwits for not knowing about the intricacies of bikes. All we wanted was to be treated with respect and last week we met a young man who went well beyond our expectations and made us feel like we mattered even after we told him we might not be buying bikes this year. He answered all our questions and we found your prices were very competitive with your competitors. We haven't purchased our bikes yet, something to do about unexpected bills, but we wanted to let you know how impressed we were with everyone at your kenaston store and that when the budget allows, we will be buying our bikes from Gord's.

Hello JF,

Just wanted to say thank you very much for the time you spent with Joan and myself tonight. To say it was educational would be an understatement. Way to go.

Take care,

Dave Wilton

My new skis? Un-friggin believable! these skis were all that my ski-guru JF told me they'd be! They are silky smooth, fast like rockets and responsive to no-end. I have skied on many skis and tried to do my selecting by myself but nothing beats the right guy to recommend the right skis!

Thanks Gord's I LOVE my skis!

Mike

I just want to mention something about one of your mechanics. On Sunday I brought my bike in with a mechanical (a broken freewheel). I fully expected it to stay at least overnight. However, the mechanic (a guy with glasses, I think he's called Mike, but I'm not sure) dropped what he was doing and took 20 minutes to fix my bike while I waited. I was very impressed. Just wanted to pass that onto you.

Chris

Just wanted to pass on my thanks for your help in selecting my new Jamis Dakar XLT 1.0. I quite like it.

Took it for a spin last night. I noticed a few things right away. It shifts beautifully with the XT derailleur. The disc brakes are a huge upgrade; they let you keep control on the downhill's without the staccato jerks that make it hard to keep the bike straight. The rear suspension takes the pounding away, even on relatively level surfaces. On one stretch in particular, on a gravel path with some bumps and loose gravel, I had control. Despite the fact I was traveling considerably faster than I would have deemed prudent on my hardtail, I was in better control than faster. Instead of fighting the bike, it was urging me to go FASTER.

Excuse the smile on my face.

Although I would like to put on some more miles before I reach any conclusions, I am pleased with it so far. It is forgiving and fun to ride. There are a couple irritations, but they are small and I will work them out.

Thanks again for your help!

My name is Morgan and I was in on Sunday looking at bikes. You were very kind to spend a lot of time talking to my friend and I about the different kind of bikes. Your most excellent customer service helped me decide that I should definitely buy a bike from Gords.

Thanks again, M

Hey JF,

I wandered into the shop a month or so ago, looking for a full-face biking helmet. I can't remember who helped me, but I soon found out most of the bike stuff was still in the basement, so I thought that was it and I'd have to wait another month for the stuff to come out.

Instead, the fellow who was helping me brought my girlfriend and I down into the basement, and started unpacking a still-taped cargo box filled with new merchandise. He brought out a couple of helmets and let me try them on. I settled on a Six Six One Full Comp (it was the first helmet that actually felt comfortable), and when I asked when I'd be able to purchase it -- seeing as how it wasn't even on display -- he told me he'd find the price and I could take it home if I wanted. He made a few phone calls, and minutes later I had the purchase price and walked out a happy customer. The helmet's felt great so far. I've been riding to work since I bought it, even through some of the -40 C stuff we've seen (I think -42 C was the coldest I rode in),

I've since referred a few of my buddies to your shop, simply based on this fellow's approach. He was very knowledgeable, helpful, informative, and patient (it's my first full-face helmet). Most other places have simply said to me "it isn't the season yet", and that was it.

I'm also looking at perhaps a new bike for this season, and I'm definitely starting with your shop when I start looking. At the very least, do you folks sell arm and leg protection for trail riding, and do you have any idea when I'd be able to come in and try some on?

Thanks so much, and kudos to the fellow who helped me (I wish I can remember who it was).

Cheers,

Justin Avery

JF, Leanne, Geoff and the Tech Boyz,

Thanks for the Sales and Service over the last year. Two bikes, some snowboard gear, odds'n'sods and of course the (coolest) MTB Club - your crew, store, and philosophy are the best in the country. I know, I've lived in 6 cities in the last 6 years.

I think you might add to your slogan "Official Winnipeg Welcome Committee" - as you have welcomed me to this city with open arms and treated me and my wife like long time friends.

We would not have enjoyed Winnipeg nearly as much, if it weren't for you and your Team.

To anyone who's reading this, understand that the moment you walk into Gord's, You'll be greeted by the friendliest and most knowledgeable brothers and sisters, all interested in the same things as yourself.
Join the MTB or Ski Club, and you will be introduced to even more brothers and sisters, again interested in the same things as yourself. You really can't go wrong!

Thanks again, I hope and will make sure our paths (read: Bike Tracks) cross again in the future!

Hey Gord's Staff!!

First of all a few things I have to say. I live in Brandon... too far to join most of your weekday rides, although if you make it out to the Brandon Hills this year drop me a line and maybe I could join you! Secondly I have only been in your store once, last summer, bought a Pearl Izumi jersey, your staff were awesome, just a shirt, they made me feel like I was buying a whole new rig!!($$$$) Thirdly I love your web site, been to the store once visit the site all the time!! It's in this regard I'm compelled to write this.... At the risk of sounding like a weenie your story of a van and it's accompanying video had me welling up so bad I couldn't see my monitor, she truly must have been a member of your family and I just felt compelled to send my condolences. I'm sorry for your loss.

Nothing can replace the joy of close friends,

Sincerely,

Trevor C.

Hi JF,

I just wanted to pass along my thanks to the folks in the tech
shop, particularly Dennis, Mike, Vlad and Geoff. I've had my bike in a
couple of times this year (tune-up, BB replacement, wheel truing, etc.)
and I've always had nothing but excellent service from those guys. They
were all very honest and upfront about the costs, didn't try to over-
or under-sell me – instead taking the time to find the level of
components to best suit my needs – and best of all the work that was
done has always been first rate. I know working in the shop is often a
thankless task, so I thought I should let you know the staff at Gord's
is doing an excellent job.

Jim Harris

JF,

Thank you so much for taking such great care of me. I really appreciate it!

Dan

Dear JF and Geoff,

I want to thank you guys for getting me up and skiing with my new boots and skis. They are everything I could have wanted. Buying the boots that Geoff finally fitted me with make skiing so much more enjoyable. Thanks Geoff.
JF you picked out skis for me that are just right, I actually ski better!
I tried a lot of places in the city but you guys are the only ones that came through. Once again thanks!

Glen McDonald

Hey Jean-Francois,

Thanks for the e-mail inquiring about my new Head skis. I have been out skiing a couple times now and have found the new boards awesome! Super light and really helping me out with those turns. I cannot wait to get the to the mountains to try out some moguls!

Thanks again,
Stephanie Jackson

JF:

The skis have been absolutely outstanding! They have really helped me to maximize the benefits of the coaching I've received to date. Race-wise, in the one race I participated in they performed really well. Bottom line: They are fast, fast, fast & turn like a dream. The more I ski on them the more I am learning about what they can do. Your direction on ski choice was 100% accurate.

I just came back from Mont Tremblant -- my first time out there. The 64s performed amazingly on ice, hard-pack & even a couple of inches of fresh snow that we got on Sunday.

I'm planning to come by the store today at lunch time to bring the skis in for tuning. Perhaps you'll be on the floor when I drop by.

One other thing, the guys I've dealt with when I've brought both my own and Robin's skis in for service have been great. I am really impressed that regardless of how busy they are they have always done everything they could to help us out with tuning, waxing etc. You have clearly done a great job in selecting and developing your staff.

Thanks. Hope to see you soon.

Thanks for the e mail. Was not expecting that. But then again.....the service we have received from everyone at Gord's has been excellent. Yes we are all enjoying the snow. The whole family was outfitted at the same time. I love my new skis. I have only been out on them twice now. Just at Springhill. Major Rookie here. I could not believe how easily I caught on. The kids....Riley (6 yrs) and Kendell (3yrs.) are both in lessons. Hopefully they will be ready for Panorama when we go in the beginning of Feb.
Thanks again for the e mail.
Take care

Nadeen

Hi JF:

the boards were AWWWWWWWSOME!

Great handling on the groomers and great off piste. Great a high speeds and hang on like shit to the sheets.

thanks

Bob M

Hey JF,

The skis are pimping, they have taken a couple of core shots since I have been out here, jumping off rocks on Standish. They make pretty cool battle scars. The bindings I find to be a little bit of pain to use as they are difficult to reset when poping out, but the ski school private lesson coordinator wants to buy them off me bad. haha. I am getting used to them and wouldnt sell them in a million years.
Take care JF and best wishes, Steve.

JF..... Whistler was outstanding and the equipment was just the right thing !!

Hello Jean Francois.

A note to you to thank you for the kind and patient service you gave to my wife and I last saturday. This was our first Gord's experience, believe it or not! We've been skiing for 8 years and never thought to stop by your shop. we're gald we did. The level of expertise and passion you have is incredible. Please let your bosses know you deserve whatever it is they are paying you.

Mitch

To whom it may concern,

I just wanted to let you know just how impressed myself and my family are with your establishment. Your level of caring, your level of knowledge and the fun atmosphere we experience every time we come into Gord's is truly above and beyond our expectations of a retail operation. Your staff is simply great and my children love to play with rocky. Keep up the good work and thank you for taking care of my family so well.

JF

Last September my wife and I stopped into the store to look at ski's on our way to Riding Mountain National Park. You spent about three hours with us giving me some excellent advice on ski's. I had a pair of K2's, 158 and you talked me into Dynastar, cross max 9, 170's. I was not sure of the longer length and you said that if I did not like them that I could return them.
Well, they are great. They really travel down the mountain and I love them. I want to thank you for your time and trouble again and just let you know that I do not want to return them. Everything you said about the longer length was right.
They are a great pair of skis.

I just bought a North Face Reflex jacket from you guys tonight and just wanted to drop a line to say that doing business with you guys was awesome. I've been looking around local shops for the past little bit but you guys did it all right. I decided this season was the time to pickup an awesome jacket and I'm extremely picky and know exactly what I want/expect in a jacket. Leanne helped me out last night and she knew everything about every jacket you guys had, and quickly helped me find the Reflex... the perfect jacket! I'll be back for the Redpoint liner.

Thanks,
Garrett

Dear Jean- Francois.

Thanks for the excellent customer service. I feel you have gone well beyond the call of duty and for that I greatly appreciate your help in setting me up with a Thule box.

Hi:
We were recently in Winnipeg on vacation visiting and decided to take a break from the relatives and go for a nice long bike ride. Shortly after we started out my husband had a flat tire. Remembering a bit about the city I looked in the phone book and phoned Gord's. The fellow who answered the phone gave me great directions to your store. Once there we rec'd nothing but the most satisfactory and friendly customer service. Another fellow at the store even put some air in my tires and oiled the chain. We were both very impressed. Your prompt service and attention contributed to a great bike ride in Winnipeg. We just wanted to say thanks. Keep up the great work!

Cindy and Wayne Simpson, Calgary

Hi JF

Thanks for the invite to the ride on Sunday. Had a good time and wish I could have stayed longer.
I have to compliment you on your organization and your approach to this event. It is a breath of fresh air for me as I have attended numerous rides in BC where things always seem to turn into a "testosterone" competition. Beginners and slower riders very quickly were discouraged, and lost interest in the sport.

Your approach is very welcoming to all levels of riders. Promoting the sport of Mountain Biking the way you do is truly a great way to grow the sport. I especially like the way you have carried on the tradition of " The Gord's Van" leaving town every Sunday for a day of adventure. Reminds me of going skiing with Gord when I was 18.

Good Job !

Erick Oland

JF

I just want to tell you and all the (sniff, sniff) staff there........I love u guyz man
hehe

Hey JF

Thanks again for taking the time to get Lise set up with a killer bike outfit last night. She's going to be a happy camper, which means I'm going to be too. You are a true professional, dude.

Hi,

This is a big thank you to Mike and Kevin who helped me get a new gear cassette for my rear wheel. Mike, thanks for calling and ensuring I was kept up to date on the part and thank you to Kevin who changed the part on my lunch break yesterday. I really appreciate the great service and this service is the reason I come back year after year for all of my maintenance and biking parts and accessories. You guys are the best!

Hi JF.

I was in your shop this last fall, and purchased the following:

Head Team Racer Junior 117 skis
Solomon C305 Mini JR Bindings.

I want to thank you for the help you provided, and to let you know the equipment is working fine, and being put to the test every Weekend.

I have attached a picture of the end user: my son Liam Wiess, who is in the Mighty Mite ski race program at Alyeska Alaska.

Jordan Wiess
Anchorage, Alaska.

Hi JF,

Wanted to say the W65's are awesome. Never knew how hard I was working on those old pipes. The skis were a big help in attaining my Level I at Springhill yesterday! The Salomon Xwave 880 boots, they fit like a glove, but had trouble keeping my feet warm in the conditions over the last few weeks. Any ideas? I am disappointed in the $27 socks. They did nothing to keep me warm and they already have a hole in them! (we'll be giving Marc a replacement pair of socks... But unfortunately, it was so incredibly cold these past few weeks that I'm afraid nothing would have helped... Other than boot heaters.)

Still hope to catch with you at one of the hills to ski a few runs together. Now that I have my level I, I'm looking to get more involved. If you have any ideas or contacts that would help let me know.

Thanks again for your help - I am really pleased with the performance of my new equipment. See you out there.

Marc

Hey JF,

Bill here from the Moose Hockey Club. Just wanted to drop you a line and compliment you on the finest, friendliest staff I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
Some examples: Brought in a Sierra Designs shell I'd bought a year earlier with a defect around the cuff closures. can't remember who I dealt with but she was great about getting it sent back to Blackwater and getting them fixed. She called when the jacket was sent back and inspected it to make sure everything had been done properly.
I was in a couple of weeks ago with my wife and son looking at some fleeces and toques. Geoff was helping us and was a real trooper when our 18 month old tested the structural limits of his diaper and the sinuses of everyone in the store!
Geoff kindly led us to the employee bathroom and thoughtfully offered the use of some baby powder to make the situation a little less fragrant. He even held the door and opened the trash container as I ran out the door carrying the package like it was a live grenade. Huge props to you Geoff!
I am looking at upgrading to a better bike for the spring, and will certainly be stopping by again to make the most informed choice possible, from people who genuinely enjoy what they do!

My name is Chris and I recently purchased a snowboard from you guys. I wanted to thank you and your staff for the wonderful service I received. Unfortunately I didn't have the pleasure of being able to drop by your store, because I live in California. I searched for the board everywhere but couldn't find it. As luck would have it I came across the Gords site and gave you a call. You had the board I was looking for, and did a magnificent job on the customer service end answering my questions and shipping the board promptly. As I said the two or three people I talked to were a pleasure to speak with, and even though I live in California I would not hesitate to do business with you folks again. I hope you don't mind that I put a link to you guys on my website: (http://home.attbi.com/~dhousepian) if it's a problem let me know. I just figured the more links you have out there, the easier it will be for people to find your great store. Anyway, thanks for reading this long bit of kiss-up.... but you deserve it. Now all I need is bindings and boots!

Thanks Again,
---- Chris

Dear Club Members,

Our Springhill Ski Social on Friday was a great success. Approximately 250 people attended despite the adverse weather conditions, not to mention the lack of visibility. We are a hardy bunch who do enjoy our sport! Thank you for coming out and inviting family and friends to share in a fun evening of skiing/boarding and après-ski fun.

The silent auction was also a great success, with many outstanding prizes. Thank you to all of you who solicited items, providing an interesting and varied selection. What stands out primarily for all of us, is the contribution by JF at Gord's Ski Centre for the generous donation of skis, rollerblades, ski poles, shin guards, and ski tune package. These items caused a flurry of interest in our auction and help to raise an unprecedented $883 for the Club. JF and fiance, Leanne kindly braved the icy roads to attend our social, but unfortunately left before we publicly recognized his very generous contribution. Please be sure to thank JF and the hardworking staff at Gord's for the unwavering support of our club.
There were many wonderful prizes, and a partial list of donors (those who we wanted to be recognized) will appear in Heidi's forthcoming newsletter.
Jane van Harrewyn reports that she would like to make some changes to speed things up a bit during the draw. Thank you to Jane for her hard work setting up an appealing display of prizes. Thanks also to coaches for their instruction, ticket sellers and all volunteers who worked that night. In total the Club raised over $2000, and hopefully generated some interest for prospective new members, but most importantly enjoyed a really FUN evening.
See you all Tuesday night.

Melanie Tooley

Hello J.F.!

Just sending you a note to thank you once again for donating such super prizes for our Silent Auction. We tried to put the prizes together in the most appealing way we could but I am really green at organizing silent auctions. The sheer volume of items we received was much more than I had expected and it was basically put together Thursday night so I apologize if your prizes where not displayed in the best possible way. It was clear to everyone that the success of our Silent Auction was largely the result of the donations received from Gord's. I was back on the hill this morning with my two Nancy Greeners and there were many people who were discussing how amazed they were at the level of support that you people give our club. Unfortunately I think you had left before Doug had extended the club's thanks for all Gord's support but it received a big round of applause from everyone in the room. Having done a silent auction for the first time I've learned a lot about what not to do next year and this morning a few of us discussed the many changes we would make to ensure it is not quite so chaotic next year (ensuring the P.A. system is operational is just one).

Also, I hope you know just how far-reaching your support of the club is. We are fortunate enough to have good friends from Winnipeg who have a condo in Fernie. These people have been regular and very good patrons of Sampson's for 5 years as well as regular patrons of the ski store in Fernie. One evening our discussion turned to how our ski club operated. I mentioned how much Gord's has supported the club this year and what a difference it has made to the club. He was really impressed at the level of support you people give to Springhill. He had previously mentioned that he was going to go into town the next day for some new ski boots because his boots were hurting his toes. I mentioned that Gord's specializes in boot fitting and that mine were comfortable from day one. The next day he told me that he had changed his mind. He felt that it would be a better idea to support the ski shop at home and that he planned to visit Gord's for his new ski boots upon returning to Winnipeg. He has since told me that he did purchase new boots at Gord's and was impressed with the service. I am only relating this rather long-winded story because I wanted you to know just one effect that word of mouth about your support has had. Our family as well as many other families in the club would not shop anywhere else and of course we all tell our friends...and then they tell a friend and so on and so on.... Anyway, all the best to you and Gord's in the New Year.

Sincerely, Jane van Harrewyn

Hey JF,

I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the work that was done on me and my best friends snowboards by Mike. It was really nice of him to spend hours on our boards....now I'm going to buy a crappy snowboard for the rails! He did an amazing job

see you later,

Hunter Kraft

jf,

It's Phillip, Hunter's friend. I just wanted to thank you and Dennis, Bryan, Gords in general. You did a very good job repairing my snowboard, and i realize how much time you put into it for me and hunter. I really appreciated it. thankyou,

Have a very good christmas and holiday.

thank you,
Phillip Bshouty

JF,

I was in the store on Saturday and you helped me find a pair of
rollerblades. I had a chance to try them out yesterday and I just wanted to
thank you because they were great! My feet didn't get sore and I could go
really fast, I just couldn't skate any better than I could before (but I
guess that comes with time). Anyways, just wanted to thank you again,

Noreen

Can't believe you responded so promptly and by such a long e-mail.

I was basically letting off steam on my part and didn't really expect a response. And your advice and honesty are also very much appreciated.

You have really helped me to narrow my focus. You have confirmed some good things I've heard about the Core Carbon and someone else also mentioned something good about these K2 Mod 8s. I will try them both out.

Thanks Again,
Leland King

Hi J.F.

Hey JF,
a pleasure dealing with you yesterday. Thanks for making the buying experience so painless. I was e-mailing friends this morning about the new HEAD skis that I'm buying so I had to go to your website to fine the make/model. First time on Gord's site and I've got to tell you it's book marked forever now. Very cool and comprehensive site. I'll be going there every Friday from now on this winter.

THE WORDS "AWARD WINNING" MAY JUST APPLY HERE

ver the past 40+ years that we've been working hard to earn your trust and business we've won many awards and kudos... From our SIA (Snow industries Association) award for Canadian Retailer of the Year to our most recent accolades as Uptown Magazine's Best Bike Shop in Winnipeg (as voted by their readers) we never stop working to be the best we can be. Never taking your business for granted.

2007 RETAILER OF THE YEAR
Mike and JF were testing Nordica skis at Sunshine Village in a foot or so of fresh snow when we got the news.

Every year the Snow sports Industries America honors a retailer from each territory, in Canada and the US. This year we are very much honored that they chose Gord's Ski and Bike as the recipient for Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. "SIA is pleased to announce the latest winners of the SIA Canadian Snow Sports Retailer of the Year awards.  Each of these awards recognizes those retailers and reps that have consistently made a significant impact in the snow sports industry.  The Canadian awardees hail from six territories.  All winners were voted on by suppliers and reps in the snow sports industry." Needless to say we're quite honored that our hard work and dedication to doing it right by you has been recognized.

Of course this would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our amazing customers and our tremendous reps and suppliers... Not to mention our sensational staff. We read about this in a general communique from the SIA and we're still wondering what kind of toaster they give out with this distinction. Hopefully it's a four-slice model.

If you haven't been to Gord's in a while, drop on by, see what all the hubbub is about. We'd love to get to know you and show you around our new second location on Kenaston.

OVERWHELMING SUPPORT!
As some of you now know... there was a period of time in October of 2008 (15 days to be precise) when our beloved Gord's was ... how shall we say... Bankrupt. At the time, when all was bleak and hope was slim that JF would be able to save Gord's ski and Bike, when all that would force us to hang on and to keep on fighting were the many, many emails of support that we had received. It's humbling, actualy, to see just how much Gord's meant to so many of you.

Here are just a few emails from customers, friends, suppliers:

Hi JF,

Great news to hear that things are looking up...

As always, let me know if I can help with anything.

Cheers, Darrin

~

Hi JF,
I just heard your news yesterday and was a bit surprised (and sad).
But I hope it lands well for you.
Good luck with the rescue.

Best wishes,

If anyone has the vision and drive to keep gord's dream alive, it's you. If there is anything i can do to help, don't waste a second just let me know.

~

hey from the out of towner, i'm really sorry to see gord's close and i'm looking forward to seeing it reopen,

i'm sorry and shocked, i would of never thought it. You're were a very good general manager for keeping your head up and doing everything you've done as well as what you're currently doing. that takes alot of character, will and determination. it's an inspiration to have people like you who dedicate alot of their time to their employment with passion. i'm glad to see that you've found investors that are willing to bring back gord's.

i'm looking forward to hanging out with you again.

take care,
Eric Fillion

~

I know I haven't been biking this summer, and haven't renewed my MTB membership for that same reason. But I heard about Gord's closing and have been keeping as current as possible with what's going on. I applaud you for taking on this challenge! I sincerely hope that you succeed, as you are such a valued person in the biking/skiing community here. It would be a shame to see you go elsewhere.

Kelvin

~

old buddy,

Just read your story and the article in the Sun.. Good luck is all I can say.
If anyone can pull victory from the jaws of defeat.. I know it's you!

Tim R

~

My wish for you is that everything falls into place, you have a fabulous grand opening and business is beyond your wildest imagination!

What Gord's ( and the staff and you in particular) bring to Winnipeg is something that's rare and very difficult to find. A store and staff that's Knowledgeable, stocks decent equipment, treats it's customers with respect and loyalty, and provides people with an avenue to meet and participate with other cyclists/ skiiers.

There will always be other bike stores in Winnipeg, but there is only one Gords, and no other bike stores can take it's place. It's more than just the physical location.

BG

~

Wow, I just saw you on the news, again. 'All this' is quite a nail biter and I'm still cheering for a happy ending.

Keep up the good work!...there's good (riding) weather ahead

If I was a betting man [a religiously optimistic betting man], I would say it’s looking good… I realize there will be no relief until the doors re-open but all of this looks really strong…

Again, if there’s anything I can do to help with the re-launch, please don’t hesitate to ask…

All the best,

Lewis

~

Thanks for the update, good luck to you on this venture. I wish I had a spare 10k to loan you, cause I know you can do it. JF any bike shop you start will succeed. My 10 year old son asked me what is going on and I told him that Gords will reopen we just have to wait.

Wayne

~

JF,

Just caught The National in the Capital... on course in the Ottawa until next Tues. Looks like you've just about got'er done buddy. Congrats. Be sure to advise when it's official. Can't say I had any doubt things would fall into place for you. Always great to see hardwork and perserverance pay off. As they say, Good things happen to Good people...and You and the Gord's team are good people. You're honestly one of a handful of people I know that are truly passionate about what they do.

Read the news in The Sun.  Sooo Sorry.  I’m just an elderly commuter, but I’d never shop anywhere else.  Hope you find some way to come back.

Sincerely,

Right back at ya big guy! I know you are having a real go at trying to save the shop..if anyone can do it you can JF. I'm wishing you all the luck in the world!

I don't think you could find one person who isn't personally invested in your quest. If it was just a matter of personal support I have no doubt you'd have a dozen stores here in the city by now.

I hope that everything works out for the best. I know that you are giving it 100% of your dedication, something I have grown to admire over the years.

Hi JF

I bought my bike from Gord’s (Kenaston) this summer because of the way you treated me as a customer.  In fact I visited a number of bike shops and Gord’s was by far the best and most accommodating.  It’s disappointing that you were not able to keep the business going.  Good luck in getting things back up and running.  I look forward to doing business with you again.

I hope everything works out for the best for everyone involved. Ruth, Brian, you and the employees.

I'll certainly be looking forward to any new developments and the grand reopening of course.

JF

I read about the store closure and I was pretty shocked. I'm sure you're pretty busy trying to get things sorted so I'll be brief. Gord's is a Winnipeg institution and things just wouldn't be the same without the shop and all it brings to the community. I wish you and your partners good luck getting the financing together and hope to visit a revitalized Gord's some day.

Jerry (from Afghanistan)

Hey..

Let me know if you need anything! Even if it someone to chat with over a drink!! I still consider Gord's my family!

Gord's is as much a part of my family as it is yours.

Im rooting for you JF, your hard work over the years will be rewarded - im sure of it. Your a good man and you deserve better than this.

My thoughts are with you and everyone at Gords.

Hey JF,

I’ve been caught up in classes but just got fully caught up on all this business. This past summer with the club was a great experience, surrounded by amazing people. I saw your devotion to Gord’s, the club, and the sport. Surrounded by such great energy, you can’t go wrong. Just think: W.W.B.D. (What Would Brett [Favre] Do?)

If there’s anything I can do, let me know.

~

Hey JF,

So it's 3:30am and I can't sleep. It's great to hear all the feedback. We have way more supporters than the ones we hear from. Hoping I can go back to serving all our loyal and generous customers very soon. Everything sounds real good so far. Let me know if I can help out with anything.

Oh here's one for ya...."Like a grub worm we have eaten all the leaves on the tree and now lie wrapped in a cocoon awaiting our beautiful emergence as a gracious butterfly". (This is super lame I know so don't publish it...but at 3:30am it seemed to fit)

Hope "IT" happens today...I'm just eager to crack the Bubbly!!! Best Of Luck Man....Keep us posted.

Cheers and Chin Up

Hey guys,

It is probably the most unique team I have ever worked with. There is a ridiculous amount of trust in that place with all the staff team. I never worry. It is such a great feeling.

I just wanted to say thanks for all you are doing in attempts to save Gord's. I have come to know and love the business and love being there and even though it is my part time job and I don't make a lot there compared to other things I could do, HOWEVER, I cant imagine working anywhere else. It is my passion, my friends and pretty much my family. It is a company that believes in what they do the way I DO. Everyone there as a team are all phenomenal staff and it is the one place I feel safe in the world to think I can give and give and give and give, and I never have to worry cause everyone is the same way. Everyone is just as willing to give back. Everyone cares about what they do there. That is why it is the best in the business.

I just wanted to say thanks for all your tireless efforts. you've kept us in the loop the entire time and I just want to say thanks to all of you for that and for being open about what you are doing and what is going on so that we can do our best to help in what little ways we can.

I wish you the best in the fight. We are thinking of you guys constantly.

Jenn W

~

Good Luck JF.  I'm sure all will go well.  After all, aren't you really the Gord in "Gord's".  Even if this endeavor isn't successful, you have a whole bike club that will support any bike shop you run or own.

Sincerely,

Tony Nascimento

Jean-Francois Ravenelle,

I am a long time customer of your and was incredibly sad to hear the news about you having to close your doors. I always looked to your staff for advice on products, dominantly boarding related, and was never disappointed.

I truly hope that this is only a short-term set back for you & your staff. I wish you all the luck in the world!

Respectfully,

Sorry to hear about Gord's filing for bankruptcy. It is nice to know that you are trying to get a plan together to buy the company.

I hope it all works out for you and all the staff at Gord's.

Anyway, good luck in this, I'll be hoping everything goes well for you. Unfortunately I'm not in a position where I can offer you some coin to help out with this, otherwise I would; but if there is any other way I can help let me know.

I was very disappointed to hear in the news last night about the insolvency at Gord’s. I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. I have done all my family biking and skiing with you. How could this happen?

I wonder if anyone would consider restarting the business as a Coop. I bet there are many loyal customers like myself that would be willing to invest. I would.

Would appreciate a reply soonest.

Dear JF

I am so sorry.

I heard you on the radio this AM but before that I said to the kids how much I liked “your” store as it was such a social place that I liked to visit as well as shop at.

And you are my connection to Matt as well.

I am thinking positive thoughts as you get your ducks lined up and will certainly attend the grand re-opening. You deserve a break here and I hope that some of those with deeper pockets than me realize how important a part of the Winnipeg recreation scene that you are.

Hang in there. Susan.

~

Hi JF,

Hey JF

I just heard the news. I'm very sorry to hear that Gord's had to be yet another victim of the economic distress that we are facing right now. I hope that you and your group can put together something that may be able to save the thing. I knew you guys are working really hard to try and keep it afloat. Also, send my deepest sympathies to the whole staff, they were a great group to work with, and I know being out of the job can be one of the most stressful events in a persons life. On the plus side, farmers almanach says we should have a cold, snowfilled winter. So at the very least, we can ski, hard.

peace

Hi Bro,

This is a truly moving story. We know that a lot of our dealers are facing a highly competitive market .

We all have families , hopes and dreams and obligations . We have always wanted to support the folks who faced the banks as we did.

Just remember when the big stores fall, they fall harder and it hurts more.

Hope that you continue in the ski trade as this is a truly Canadian sport. Thanks for sharing this story. Come see us at the next show, we will follow your trail wish you much success. Having an honest and energetic staff will be one of your best investments.

I had heard a rumour you were looking to buy back at BTAC but I did not know Brian was in financial trouble.

Thanks for the update.

Best of luck with acquisition

DAMN JF

It seemed to have happened so quickly!! I guess the last time we spoke was at Interbike 2007 and things seemed to be going well. You mentioned to me at this point in time that you were in discussions with Brian to buy a portion of the business and things seemed to be going as planned. As I can imagine how difficult is was being at BTAC discussing this issue with all the reps and credit managers.

Anyhow, keep your chin up maan and things always seem to work themselvs out. As I have always said.....good things happen to good people!!!

Best of luck with the potential new venture

The pic you posted on Facebook....the one with the caption "Someone divided by zero".....should be replaced with "Someone under-capitalized their business expansion"!

Gords is too much of a Winnipeg institution to disappear and I know that if anybody can make it rise from the ashes it is your good self and Rob....don't know the others involved.

I have investments tied up in stocks so for me, and countless others, it's a waiting game.....otherwise I would have approached you with cash. The only thing I can do in the meantime is wish you and your team success and a quick solution to this situation.

Can't wait for the party !!!!!

Steve

Excellent. Wow what a roller coaster ride this has been for you!!!!. But I'm thinking that possibly this may be better for you in the long run....

I look forward to the reopening of the Stores!

Had I not lost over the last few days on the stock market, I'd be in as well.

Could be a movie in this story. You shared bits of Montreal and I certainly could not begin what you went through at the trade show.

Certainly sounds like that there will be better adventures ahead for Captain Ravenelle and his swarthy band of pirates.

Treasure for all !!!

YOU will prevail my brother from another mother. It is SO obvious this is your dream and it's in your heart..a part of you really. It will happen - just stay strong. I know people will see your true dedication, loyalty and obsession with this..most people would have jumped on the pirate ship by now and took off to the Caribbean...you sticking this out says a lot about your character....

May the force be with you!

Hi JF,

It’s very distressing to hear of the Gord’s credit crunch. I hope you can save it.

Thanks,

So here i am a completely self-absorbed student going off about my my projects and due dates and stressing over trying to balance my life with my student life and complaining about it to you.

Then today i open up the paper and who do i see... YOU, and from what i gather your stresses far exceed my poor little student ones. So i feel compelled to return the advice you suggested to me... 'remember: "inhale... exhale". I'm sure everything will turn out fine or at the least send you along a new path that you didn't expect to take which in my life always proves to be a beneficial to the overall scheme of things.

I hope you have a good weekend! As for myself i'm off to Art and Sole tonight to help out.

take care,

Meaghan

Hey JF,

So sorry for taking so long to get back to you!

Looks like you’ve put in a great deal of work, hope you can make things work out.

You can count on us as loyal Gord’s (actually you could change it to JF’s) customers.

Let me know if there’s ever anything I can do to help.

Thanks

Hi JF,

I really do believe that you're the heart and soul behind Gord's. The things I've seen you done to build a community around the store is amazing.

I wish you the best of luck, and really hope that you can pull this through. Afterall, I am looking forward to Panorama next year.

JF,

That was a very honorable way of noting the situation. You have just impressed me like I some would not have expected.

I too, feel the need for service, reputation, respect, passion & compassion offered - and the legacy of Gord's should soldier on. It's ironic that just the other day, I mentioned that it feels we are a city (province) void of skiing 'cause of circumstances.

It's not just an old fable - If we all knew then what we know now...

The loss of Gord's would have a very sad and senseless effect on the sport.

Chin up JF...
