THE LOVE OF A GOOD BIKE
 Life is way too short to ride poo. If you've fallen out of love with your bicycle, come and see us, we specialize in rekindling two wheel love. Whether it be a cruiser bike, a comfort bike, a road bike or a full-suspension bike, we've got it for you... and PLEASE, no need to apologize of feel intimidated because you're just looking for a $450 bike... We pay the rent on $450 bikes! We treat all our customers equaly... (and did we mention we're NOT on commission?) no need to worry, whether you're buying a $299 bike or a $3999 bike, we get excited the same. INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY
It's called "Good Karma Marketing" and it involves giving back and contributing to our community. For Gord's it's doing things that we feel improve not only our quality of life, it also includes things like Gord's Bike Club, things like building trails, maintaining and cleaning up where we ride.It also includes our involvement in the Riverview Cycle on Life.
Held on the first Sunday in June and hosted by the Riverview Health Centre Foundation. The proceeds from the Cycle on Life Ride go towards specific projects that enhance the quality of life for patients and residents at Riverview Health Centre.
In 2008 and 2009, the money raised is being used to support the province’s newly enhanced Rehabilitation Services located at the Riverview Centre. Projects from past years include a new Conservatory and furnishings, the construction of walkways and the modernization of the Centre’s hydro-therapy pool. 2010 Fundraising will go towards renovating all of Riverview's bathing facilities.
Riverview is very close to our hearts as it was the last residence of our beloved founder and ski/riding buddy Gord Reid. The work they do is invaluable and it's not surprising to see just how many people have been touched by the great work this Winnipeg institution has provided to hundreds.
EAGLE HEAD LAKE
 No, there is no such lake on any map... It's a name that we gave to an unnamed lake near the trailhead of a special project of Gord's Bike Club. You see, it's one thing to sell bikes (and damned good bikes at that) but altogether another thing to make sure our customers have somewhere to ride said bikes.
That's why we're so very much involved with IMBA and why we spend so much time and money building and maintaining trails. Eagle Head Lake is our baby, our pride and joy... probably because we created it from scratch. We've been working on it for the better part of a year now and it's simply awesome! Yes, it's quite a bit technical and yes, it's 2 hours outside of the city but man, is it
worth it. Open to everyone, it's probably best savored on one of Gord's Bike Club's infamous Epic Rides...

GORD'S RACING
 The whole mess all started about a month ago with six girls who thought "hey, let's race together as a team" and poof! Just like that Gord's Girls Racing was created. Featuring Carmen, Leanne, Jenn1, Jenn2, Cat and Carolyn, their goal was simple, to crush all competitors without mercy (ok, maybe their goal was just to go out and have fun while pushing themselves to the limit... but the truth just didn't sound quite as awesome as the "crushing" thing) but you get the idea, it was all about flying the colors while getting some positive girl power together...

 Gord's "Personal Gear Consult" is something we thought up after our first of many busy weekends here at Gord's. We were wondering how to give those who take buying something like a bike seriously ... What to do for those of you requiring a bit more attention. Sure we do all we can (and then some) for those of you just walking into any of our stores... But sometimes it's frustrating for us, we get so busy, somewhat a victim of our success... and like it or not we sometimes miss details. So here we were, wondering how we could do things better, how we could give you 150% of the Gord's experience. So we thought of this.

 Gord's Bike Club is a non-elitist gathering of like-minded folk who share a gregarious need to get out and ride their bikes with a smile on their faces, a need to escape reality (even if it is just for a Wednesday evening), a need to be outside and laugh, a need to be active, a need to push the boundaries of their back yard, a need to be able to laugh at ones' self, a need to get
less fat and make new friends.
Gord's Bike Club is a not-for-profit entity that has been around since well before Gord's Ski and Bike. As our founder Gord Reid, would lead rides, organize races and help out fellow riders since the 1940's with his patented zest for the sport. Our primary goal and directive has always been to uphold that lofty tradition, to bring new people to the sport, to help those who want to ride more, to
provide a positive, FUN and challenging atmosphere for those of us who want to experience the awe of riding somewhere beautiful with friends and family in a constructive, supportive, fun and healthy way. Come on, get off your but. Give it a try!

TIME FOR A NEW BIKE!
 Often an afterthought for some bike shops, Here at Gord's kids bikes (and kids in general) are a very big deal to us. We offer Junior bikes of all prices, from entry level all the way up to the best in kids performance bikes. We even carry kids road bikes!
We're no dummies, we know who our future customers are and since we plan on being around for a long, long time, it makes perfect sense for us to make sure we take care of our younger customers the right way good bikes, fun bikes, COOL bikes.
Be forewarned. While (as we've stated above) we offer bikes for almost any budget, we don't sell crap... So if what you're looking for is a super-cheapie discount-special, we may not be your first stop. but if you want your kid to be safe, comfortable and enjoy biking, (especially if you would rather he or she  not end up like that kid down the block that lives in his basement

BACK FROM FERNIE
 Gord's Bike Club Members Heidi, Scott Watson, Matt Jackson, Watson 2.0 as well as staff members Darci, JF, Coppens and JT Austinhave just returned from
ripping it up on our first MTB trip to Fernie ever... and WE LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Let us be the first to admit it, the hype is all true, this place is sensational. From the delicious burgers at the on-hill Kelsey's to the equally delicious trails and exceedingly friendly locals, Fernie is a most pleasant surprise. Especially considering the hype it had to live up to.
 See, the thing is, we've been hearing about how awesome Fernie is for decades and while we're all for deserved hype, some other over-hyped locales have done a pretty good job over the years of failing to live up to said hype. That said, we're super happy to report that Fernie lives up to the build-up and then some. Sure, the main MTB lift could be faster and yes, "9 bears spotted today" can be of some concern but if you like your bike riding smooth, fast, challenging and sweet with a side dish of great on-hill accommodations as well as smiling housekeeping staff who are ok with dirty bikes in the hallways and mud everywhere... This is where you wanna go gravity assist mountain biking.
The downside: the lifts only run Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yep. That's it. You want the perfect experience? You're not into the 'W' scene? Here's our recommendation: Do two days at Fernie, four days at Panorama (in a head-to head Panorama still wins simply because of the high speed lift
and the exceptional outdoor hot pools) and one day at Kicking Horse... THAT would be, as out good friend and Gord's Bike Club member Pat Burr would eloquently put it, Kick ass!

GORD'S GIRLS!

The name "Gord's Girls" applies to all the women who ride with Gord's Bike Club. It's a nickname they gave themselves and it's a moniker they wear with pride. From Leanne's Girl Ride on Tuesdays to Gord's Girls Racing led by Cat Horbatiuk and Jenn Holmes, Gord's Girls' mission is to initiate, encourage and participate and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
TRAIL BUILDING

PICKING THE RIGHT BIKE GEAR
 From selecting the right pumps to computers to bike lights to 6 inch all-mountain bikes, Gord's long journey in seeking out the best stuff all starts with our annual trip to INTERBIKE in Vegas, gotta love the place... or hate it. Vegas has been where the bike industry gets together for the last dozen years or so. Love it or hate it it's where we go to check out the cool new stuff and the not-so-cool-new stuff. We spend 2 days in the desert at Bootleg Canyon testing out bikes followed by a winter of sorting out the best from the rest and follow up with a half dozen days of Industry trade Shows in Nevada and Montreal...
WHEN IN VEGAS...
 It's something we attend every September. The Annual INTERBIKE show in sunny Las Vegas. Although Vegas is curiously interesting we go there not by choice (I could think of a hundred and twenty eight or so places I'd rather go test mountain bikes than at Bootleg Canyon in the desert of Nevada)... We go there because for 5 days every year it's where the entire bike industry converges to show their wares for the upcoming season. It's where everyone who's serious about bikes goes to fill-up on bike knowledge and where we go to talk to those who have a say in what the bike industry pumps out. This year there are four of us going. All members of Gord's Bike Club. There's Catherine, Robbie, Vlad and JF and their impressions of the bikes we test and the product we sample will have a lot to do with what we offer you in 2008. WE LOVE MOUNTAIN BIKES!
Less kind folks who visit our fair province often scoff "Mountain bikes in Winnipeg? But... you have no MOUNTAINS!" To that we regularly reply "OF COURSE MOUNTAIN BIKES! HAVE YOU SEEN OUR ROADS?"
(no but really, all kidding aside, have you seen our roads?).

THE TED CHRONICLES
Just wanted to let you know that 2 years ago my family bought my Rocky Mountain Element 10 for my 50th Birthday. At the time I was getting it I was thinking…am I crazy to spend this much money on a bike?? I have to say looking back, it has been one of the best investments ever made…It is an activity I have always loved and can enjoy even more with a great bike.
- The ride is unbelievable…easy shifting, smooth rides over rough terrain, full suspension definitely nice for the longer rides etc.
- Joining the bike club has improved my riding skills immensely…watching riders like yourself, Coppens and others is truly inspirational… club members are also great folks…the option to take the easy route with no stigma is a great relief…riding with younger people makes me feel younger (What is this 16 year old boy doing in this old body???)
- Riding the trails is a great activity Mike and I really enjoy and gives us an activity we can do together for the rest of our lives. We do this in the mountains with my brother and his son and daughters as well…so it is truly a family activity.
- Building the riding skills allowed me to really enjoy the downhill ride at Whistler last year. The better ride clinics and coaching from yourself and other riders is truly great…Being able to learn to ride down stairs comfortably last year was a great accomplishment and learning to ride up stairs last week was awesome!!
- This year we will do it at Whistler again only more…without the improved skills of the bike club, would not enjoy this type of riding nearly as much.
- It has been a great way to get in better shape…even used the bike in the winter this year…was ok at -35 degrees…also helps for getting into shape for skiing.
This year for my birthday my wife bought me a book called “Younger Next Year”. The gist of it is exercise 6 days a week and do new and exciting things. Biking accomplishes both of these. So in short if anyone is even thinking about getting a new bike, I would highly recommend it. Get a good bike, as much as you can afford and use it…every day if you can…
I can also say the service has been great… Last year when I got the bike, I was fitted with an 18” frame…I found that after using for a weekend my neck was really sore… So staff found a 20.5” frame which works much better for me…exchanged bikes with no hassles whatsoever…
So again thanks it has truly been great.

GORD'S PICKS UP SCOTT
 It just made way too much sense. The emergence of Scott Bikes as a clear front-runner in the bike market as Europe's largest bike brand and simply because its bikes are so chock-full of tangible technologies ... and the fact that they simply ride like stink... Like we said, it just made sense.
Scott has been in the bike business since day one. Building fun, sexy, technically superior bikes that convey a passion for excellence in design in a way very few bike companies can match. Sure, there are those companies that eat, sleep, and drink engineering, pushing concepts on folks that no-one ever asked for to begin with (lefty, anyone?)... Scott is different. In a good way. Starting with the people who look after Scott in Canada, you get a sense these people deeply care about doing it right.
