ABOUT GORD'S:
Gord's Ski and Bike is a Winnipeg based shop that started from very humble beginnings: in 1961 with a $1000 loan from a gentleman named Shluderman who just happened to co-invent the removable metal ski edge a long time ago in Europe. From the coat check in the basement of the now defunct of the Winnipeg Ski Club on Togo and Osborne Gord's Ski Centre emerged as one of the premier ski shops in western Canada... From there Gord's grew into it's second location at Number 7 Donald Street... Today Gord's is the largest independent ski and bike retailer in Central Canada with two locations totaling over 13,000 square feet of the very best clothing, ski and bike product anywhere. Winner of the Prestigious Snow Industries Association's "Canadian Retailer of the Year" and most recently voted "Best Bike Shop in Winnipeg" by the readers of Uptown Magazine, Gord's Ski and Bike is constantly striving to be the best place for Manitobans to fulfill their Outerwear, Ski and Bike Gear fix.
Bolstered by the very best staff anywhere and an insatiable desire to become the best we can be, Gord's is committed to outstanding customer service and above and beyond product knowledge. What truly sets us apart is our common degree of caring and our need to get out there and participate in the activities that we represent. From our much loved Bike Club to our involvement in grass-roots programs and events like the International Mountain Bicycling Association, it's in our mission statement to get out there and play with our customers. Like Gord once said to JF one winter day many, many years ago: "Never sell them the wrong stuff... let someone else do that".

DOING IT RIGHT
Bob emailed us, concerned about a little paint chip he had on his bike... So we suggested to him that he drop by one of our shops and we'd take care of him... Here's his follow-up email (we thought we'd share):
JF,
I ended up taking my bike in to the Donald Store and they touched up the paint. I have had a great experience. I am a novice rider and I am very happy that I bought my new mountain bike from your company, because your staff have made me feel important and have helped me pick out a bike that I am looking forward to riding. In particular, I would like to say thanks to Jenn of the Donald Store for greeting me very well and helping me pick out a great bike Rocky Mountain Flare.
She was very helpful and knowledgeable. Also, I would like to say thank you to another of the staff from the Donald Store who helped adjust the bike to fit me better. As well, I went to the Kenaston location yesterday afternoon to get some additional adjustment to the seat and stem. I ended up buying an air pump and a water bottle from there. My point is that I am very happy and looking forward to continuing to learn more about riding and trail riding and I will look forward
to shop at your stores because of your friendly staff and their good knowledge. Hopefully, once I am a bit more fit I can join the bike club and hit some trails. Thank you very much.

GORD'S 2010 SKI TEST
 We do it every year. It's part of how we do things, it's the way we decide what skis to carry... and we bring staff, friends and customers to help us out. This year we're in Winter Park Colorado for the 2010 SIA ski demo and Gord's 10th annual ski test! Joining us this year are Heidi, Darci, Vlad, Coppens, Jerry Todd, Scott, Cat, Alex and the mandatory JF.
Two days of great skiing on the latest gear from every supplier known to snowsports. Sure, some skis were better than others (MUCH better actually) and some were simply forgettable but things are looking up in ski land. There are not many really bad skis to be had next year, just variations of good... And our reason for being out here is to pick the very best of the crop. Some of you thinking of getting skis this year might even be pleasantly suprised to discover that many of the best skis we've skied on are available right now!
Skis such as the test favorite Dynastar Sultan 85 and the deceptively competent Blizzard Viva (women's) and Magnum (men's) 7.6 as well as the supremely competent Scott Mission and Scott Crusade (watch JF's 2009 review of the unchanged Crusade here).  Next time you decide to shop around for gear, here's a suggestion: Try asking you salesperson what THEY use. [a] You may be surprised to learn that they don't even participate in the sport they're selling and [b] You might just find that they ride a brand they don't even sell. Well at Gord's Ski and Bike, we don't swing that way. If a staff-member is selling you skis, they ski...
and not only do they ski but they ski on what we sell. And so it goes at Gord's.

 Please forgive us as we do our best to convince you and appeal to your Winnipeg roots and suggest that you to consider shopping locally for your ski, snowboard and bike gear... and help support locally owned specialty shops in our community!
As a local specialty retailer that has fought hard to earn your trust and business for close to five decades, we'd be lying if we didn't admit that feel the pressure of the increasing number of big-box stores and internet giants and on-line shopping sites.
Although it's tempting to think you're getting the best deal by going big box or on-line, May we humbly suggest that you think twice about the implications associated with sending your dollars outside the city. Winnipeg needs our dollars, WE need your dollars. Remember the downsides to buying over the internet or supporting the big box stores that take your money and send it back to Alberta or BC... and if you think buying online is cheaper, always be prepared to pay additional money for shipping

 Gord's "Personal Gear Consult" is something we thought up after our first of many busy weekends here at Gord's. We were wondering how to give those who take buying something like a bike seriously ... What to do for those of you requiring a bit more attention. Sure we do all we can (and then some) for those of you just walking into any of
our stores... But sometimes it's frustrating for us, we get so busy, somewhat a victim of our success... and like it or not we sometimes miss details. So here we were, wondering how we could do things better, how we could give you 150% of the Gord's experience.
GO AHEAD, JUST ASK
 We're pretty sure we've said this before: Nothing is more expensive than the wrong gear. And the right gear is not always the most expensive gear... That's where we come in. Most of us have been there, done that... and if we haven't been there and done that we'll find someone in the building that has been there done that... and we'll get that someone to help you.
Not only are we all-out committed to providing you with the bestest gear at the bestest prices but we're also here for you with expert advice on everything from where to ski to how to layer.
