ABOUT GORD'S:
Gord's Ski and Bike is a Winnipeg based shop that started from very humble beginnings: in 1961 with a $1000 loan from a gentleman named Shluderman who just happened to co-invent the removable metal ski edge a long time ago in Europe. From the coat check in the basement of the now defunct of the Winnipeg Ski Club on Togo and Osborne Gord's Ski Centre emerged as one of the premier ski shops in western Canada... From there Gord's grew into it's second location at Number 7 Donald Street... Today Gord's is the largest independent ski and bike retailer in Central Canada with two locations totaling over 13,000 square feet of the very best clothing, ski and bike product anywhere. Winner of the Prestigious Snow Industries Association's "Canadian Retailer of the Year" and most recently voted "Best Bike Shop in Winnipeg" by the readers of Uptown Magazine, Gord's Ski and Bike is constantly striving to be the best place for Manitobans to fulfill their Outerwear, Ski and Bike Gear fix.
Bolstered by the very best staff anywhere and an insatiable desire to become the best we can be, Gord's is committed to outstanding customer service and above and beyond product knowledge. What truly sets us apart is our common degree of caring and our need to get out there and participate in the activities that we represent. From our much loved Bike Club to our involvement in grass-roots programs and events like the International Mountain Bicycling Association, it's in our mission statement to get out there and play with our customers. To not only sell stuff but also to get to know WHO our customers are in order to better take care of their needs. Like Gord once said to JF one winter day many, many years ago: "Never sell them the wrong stuff... let someone else do that".

DOING IT RIGHT
Bob emailed us, concerned about a little paint chip he had on his bike... So we suggested to him that he drop by one of our shops and we'd take care of him... Here's his follow-up email (we thought we'd share):
JF,
I ended up taking my bike in to the Donald Store and they touched up the paint. I have had a great experience. I am a novice rider and I am very happy that I bought my new mountain bike from your company, because your staff have made me feel important and have helped me pick out a bike that I am looking forward to riding. In particular, I would like to say thanks to Jenn of the Donald Store for greeting me very well and helping me pick out a great bike Rocky Mountain Flare.
She was very helpful and knowledgeable. Also, I would like to say thank you to another of the staff from the Donald Store who helped adjust the bike to fit me better. As well, I went to the Kenaston location yesterday afternoon to get some additional adjustment to the seat and stem. I ended up buying an air pump and a water bottle from there. My point is that I am very happy and looking forward to continuing to learn more about riding and trail riding and I will look forward
to shop at your stores because of your friendly staff and their good knowledge. Hopefully, once I am a bit more fit I can join the bike club and hit some trails. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Bob Mitra
Thank you so very much for your Email, Bob... Made our day to hear we did right by you. Thank you for your business, we very much appreciate it.

It's that time of year where summer stuff must go away! Check back in a few minutes as we franticaly update our main page with all our August Clearance Sale info.

RIDE MUCH?
No kidding, we were doing a little ride-video inventory today on YouTube and realized that -wow- we've hosted over 50 rides this year so far! ...and that out of the 300+ videos we now have on YouTube, we have over 42 videos from this summer to prove that yes, we do indeed ride it like we talk it. For more Gord's Bike Club info click HERE. For all our ride videos

NEWBIES ROCK!
July 25th 2010 was our biggest Epic Ride in recent memory and what a ride it was. 25 riders joined us at the Legendary Ingolf with Gord's BikeThis is the 11th year of Gord’s Bike Club as we all know it and up until this year it seemed as if we’d never again regain the Epic Ride glory that was 2002 where members such as Dean Rideout, Carmen, Gavin and Mike Killick did so much to provide the glue with which we built up this club... But now thanks to the dedication of folks like JT, Graham, Darci (my favorite club member of all) and the continued participation and help of people such as Scott Sinclair, Karla, Chris Darazsi, Andrew Oh, Gavin and of course the lovely Mario... (I know I’m leaving a bunch of semi-regulars out of this illustrious list such as Steve, Watson, Gleeton, Chuck, Cat, and more... but you know who you are and we love you all).
Suffice it to say that this year I have renewed hope for Gord's Bike Club. Sure Wednesday Night Rides are always a blast and the quality of our growing weeknight membership is simply astounding... We are so fortunate to have as members such great folks. But to me to future and the enjoyment of our club resides through the leadership and passion of ride regulars and the growth of our all-important Epic Rides.
The addition of Epic Newbies is so key to us... Because, quite simply, they make us smile through their progression and their adoption of our herd as their own... and that’s what makes me smile the most. I’m particularly delighted that Gord’s employee Janelle has taken up the challenge of “walking it like we talk it” and jumped in with both feet... I am also very happy to welcome Janique (aka Janiqwa) to the gang. Her second Epic Ride was much better than her first and while she suffers from “concentration face” (just like Darci, Val, Graham and many others) she regularly reassures me that she’s indeed having a blast... Her hubby Colin is just as excited about the club and we just can’t wait to poke fun at him when he joins the Epic Ride crew... And those are just a very few of the many... Like Paul Anton and that guy who rides that turquoise Specialized who simply radiates positive passion for the rides (despite his unfortunate taste in equipment) and the temporarily sidelined Claudia, and the Triathlon Club boys... There are so many more, I could go on for longer than I should... This is a great year for newbies for Gord's Bike Club and I just wanted to thank all those of you who took the plunge and joined our little club... But especially for the returning membership who have dome so much to support your fellow members. I can’t remember all your names right now but I see your faces, please know that we all notice your helpful encouragement and it's heartening to see what great people we have in our midst.

GORD'S SKI AND BIKE WINS AGAIN!
Uptown Magazine has just released it's "UPTOWN’s readers’ choice awards" and once again Gord's Ski and Bike has been selected "Winnipeg's Best Bicycle Shop" and we're tickled pink... and so very proud to accept this prestigious honor! Here's what the good people at Uptown Magazine have said about us: "Having been in business for over 40 years, the people at Gord’s know how to treat you right. Whether you’re just starting to ride, you broke your bike “just riding along” or you’re looking to get the most serious of serious bikes, Gord’s helpful, knowledgeable staff is the best of the best"... Wow! We couldn't have said it better ourselves. On top of this award we also placed third in the "Best Outdoor Gear" category, smashing! GET OUT AND RIDE!
Looking
to put a little excitement into your life? Want to venture
off road to escape traffic and congestion? Attracted by
friends' tales of sweet singletrack and jaw-dropping overlooks?
You've got the mountain-bike bug. Good for you. Now's
a great time to be shopping and we've got a showroom full
of sweet two wheeled machines that'll satisfy all your
dirt and pavement dreams.
We've come up with some information we hope will help
you out in your quest for a cool new bike. Let's start
with 5 key tips then we'll get to the meat of the matter:
The nuts and bolts:

AFRAID TO GET DIRTY?
For the record, there is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with being afraid to get dirty... But If you happen to be one of those folks that enjoy getting some dirt on their person then that's GREAT! We have a club for you! It's called Gord's Bike Club. Come on! Dust off the bike, go look for the helmet and join us on one of our many rides. (some of which even involve staying clean!). Take for example our Wednesday Night Rides: Everyone's welcome and it's a great place to get started with! We're friendly, low pressure AND we like to laugh lots. Drop by our Donald store on Wednesdays at 6pm (earlier if you need to sign up) and come riding with us! Read more about our many rides by clicking right here:

IT'S MORE THAN JUST SELLING BIKES
For all of us at Gord's it's about the love of the ride. The love of the sport. The joy of seeing someone get out there and smile. THAT is the ultimate pay off. Nothing makes us quite as happy as seeing someone get a cool bike (no matter what the price) and get outside and play.
At Gord’s Ski and Bike, we’re never sure EXACTLY when the moment is coming, but for everyone who gets on a bike from Gord’s, the moment ALWAYS arrives. It’s that moment where you realize you’re free. You’re outside, with the wind at your back and you first experience the limitless possibilities of exploring the great outdoors on your bicycle.
Make this summer the year you get on a bike and find your moment. We found ours over many, many years ago and have never looked back.

OUR ESTEEMED PARTNERS IN CRIME
There are a few companies out there that share our core values, institutions and businesses that we've come across over the years that share our passion for a job well done, businesses that take care of their customers in much the same way we try to take care of our customers here at Gord's. We'd like to take some time to recognize some of these excellent and ethical businesses here.

SHOP CLOSE TO HOME AND SAVE!
Please forgive us as we do our best to convince you and appeal to your Winnipeg roots and suggest that you to consider shopping locally for your ski, snowboard and bike gear... and help support locally owned specialty shops in our community!
As a local specialty retailer that has fought hard to earn your trust and business for close to five decades, we'd be lying if we didn't admit that feel the pressure of the increasing number of big-box stores and internet giants and on-line shopping sites.
Although it's tempting to think you're getting the best deal by going big box or on-line, May we humbly suggest that you think twice about the implications associated with sending your dollars outside the city. Winnipeg needs our dollars, WE need your dollars. Remember the downsides to buying over the internet or supporting the big box stores that take your money and send it back to Alberta or BC... and if you think buying online is cheaper, always be prepared to pay additional money for shipping
charges, duty fees, brokerage fees and taxes... not to mention pesky little things like binding installation and warranty issues.
When you shop at a local shop like Gord's Ski and Bike you can actually see, touch, feel or try on the products you are interested in buying. We would never assume that simply having a Winnipeg address is sufficient to count on your business, we try hard every day to EARN your business. Through the hiring of the very best staff possible, renovations, staff education, product testing, product testing and even more product testing... We're committed to giving
you as many reasons to buy at Gord's as possible... and that includes being price competitive.
Our friendly helpful staff fully understand what we're against as an ethical local retailer dedicated to doing right by our customers and they are not easily deterred... They are dedicated professionals and caring to a fault. Their mandate is not only to interact with you but to get to know you in order to properly advise you on the right products for you based on our own experience. In addition,
our staff is not only 100% accountable for the quality of your experience at our store, but they are also accountable to your experience with the product we've recommended none of which are available anywhere on the internet at any price. Come in and say hello, we are always happy to see you and can help you find exactly what you're looking for. So when you're thinking of new ski, bike or snowboard equipment or outerwear, think local, think Winnipeg and drop by either of our stores and experience
why it's good to shop close to home, why there's value in supporting local businesses such as Gord's and why you'll end up saving money in the end 'cause the wrong gear is always more expensive than the right gear.

FRS NOW AVAILABLE AT GORD'S!
Are you looking for something to make a difference in your energy output? We took notice of FRS after seeing Lance pitch the stuff in various magazines. "If Lance beleives in this stuff, maybe we should take a look at FRS" we thought. Lance scrutinized the science behind this energy drink and deemed it worthy of consumption. The buzz behind this product is considerable and there's good reason for it. Darci made us try it at Interbike in Vegas last year and we were hooked. FRS is the real deal. It's simple: Beat Fatigue with FRS Energy!
Review after review, FRS garners raves and seems to gather converts at every turn. But don't take our word for it, TRY IT YOURSELF! (read lower for a special intro offer). FRS is Available in many different formats (canned drink, chews and concentrate) so there's more than one way to get all the benefits of FRS. If you're looking for something to drink every day to improve your health and provide all-day energy, start your day with a glass of FRS orange concentrate. It gives you a subtle but long-lasting energy boost and it tastes like orange juice. That’s what many of us will be doing each day. Want to avoid mixing anything? Get FRS straight out of the cans – the FRS cans offer good taste without the hassle, and they are available in a wider array of flavors. Want to skip the juice altogether? Try the FRS energy chews, which are like little pieces of ‘energy candy’ that work great to fuel your bike rides, runs, and other workouts.
If you're curious to try FRS out we're having a special intro sale on the stuff for the month of August, simply mention to us that you read about FRS on our website and we'll give you 30% off any FRS purchase! (but just for the month of August).
WHAT DO YOU GET
Nothing sucks more than buying a bike and being left all alone, trying to figure out what to do next from a maintenance point of view.
At Gord's Ski and Bike
we're not like that. When we sell you a bike we not only appreciate your business and thank you for it, we also like to think that it's the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship.
So when we say "don't worry about it" we're saying it like it's a good thing. Like we're going to be there for you long after our initial sale is concluded... and not just because we'd like to sell you more cool stuff, it's all part of the deal: We want to see you out there enjoying your new bike for a long, long time. When you buy a new (non-clearance priced) bike From Gord's Ski and Bike, here's what you get:

NEVER, EVER, PAY MORE
We're no dummies. We're well aware that in the end it all comes down to price. No matter how great the service, how amazing the free service package is, how tremendous the knowledge, how fantastic the product or how fabulous the warranty, if you can't justify it to your wallet, the bank or even worse, your spouse, it just won't fly. We understand that. We also know that some of you are under the mistaken
impression that Gord's Ski and Bike is an expensive place to shop. So it's with those important things in mind we thought we'd take a moment and spell out for you -in detail- what we mean when we use the term "LOWEST PRICE POLICY" on all the products
we sell at Gord's:
MEET OUR FRIENDLY STAFF!
The other day we were counting how many folks were on our staff list and we realized that there is close to 35 of us working at Gord's. We suspect that that's more than any other independent shop of our category in the city. One big family with one common goal: To share our passion for what we do with you.
What makes us different could be that we actually do the sports we sell, that we're not on commission, that we don't do sales contests, or could it be that we all enjoy one another's company and that we genuinely care for every aspect of your experience? (even well after you've spent your hard earned money and left the building) Here's an idea: Come on in and find out for yourself! Read more about who we are by visiting our staff page here:
PERSONAL GEAR CONSULTANT
Gord's "Personal Gear Consult" is something we thought up after our first of many busy weekends here at Gord's. We were wondering how to give those who take buying something like a bike seriously ... What to do for those of you requiring a bit more attention. Sure we do all we can (and then some) for those of you just walking into any of
our stores... But sometimes it's frustrating for us, we get so busy, somewhat a victim of our success... and like it or not we sometimes miss details. So here we were, wondering how we could do things better, how we could give you 150% of the Gord's experience.
TESTIMONIALS
We get a few of these once in a while, and while we also like to hear about what we didn't do right, it really makes us proud to hear when we've done it right.
Read actual testimonials by actual customers on our testimonial page here:
ACCOUNTABLE TO YOU
A “good deal” is relative… Buying the wrong thing is always a poor purchase, no matter what the price paid.
Pseudo experts and armchair quarterbacks are absolutely everywhere… especially with the rampant proliferation of review sites on the web. Accountability is key. The difference between “them” and us is that we, the staff and ownership of Gord’s Ski and Bike, are accountable to you, our customers. Our word is our bond. If you put your trust in us and we make the wrong recommendation on something we will make things right. That’s
our promise to all our customers. Hopefully you can find some value in that.

TEST IT
THEN SELL IT
It's a simple principle by which we live and die: "Only sell what you yourself would buy". After all, life's too short to sell crap, life's too short to buy crap. To make sure we're crapless we go through much time and effort to ensure that everything we sell is up
to our lofty standards.
|
LOWEST PRICE POLICY
Of course you don't want to pay more for the same stuff! Who would? We understand that when it comes to saving a dollar some of us can go a little overboard... spend more on gas than the actual difference in price... To help you out, we have this little thing called Gord's lowest price policy... |

SNOWBOARDS THE GORD'S WAY
Sure, you can base your snowboard buying decision on a whole bunch of factors, like how rad the dude at the shop is, how bitchin the graphics are on that deck or how many pro riders are sponsored by brand X.
Here's how we do it: We select the best riding boards, we pick the best decks for the money, we only deal with companies that'll stand by their product and while we certainly don't carry the latest fad, we do have the latest technologies. We carry Burton, K2, Nitro (we like Nitro boards lots) Arbor (another staff fav) Head, Flow, Drake, Thirty Two and more... Drop on by, let us help you cut through the BS and ride the best! While you're at either store, ask us about our legendary bootfit guarantee. No one cares more about your experience. Drop on by, we'll explain. For more about how we do boards, do yourself a favor, check out our snowboard page HERE and see what we're all about.
